ThinkLite relights garage at Boston’s Museum of Science
Recently, the Museum of Science, Boston embarked upon a project to relight its entire parking garage. Seeking a sustainable solution that not only reduces their overall energy consumption and costs, but provides an improved visitor experience, The Museum of Science, Boston selected ThinkLite for its breakthrough LED retrofit product to relight the five-story facility.
Paul Ippolito, Director of Facilities for the Museum of Science described the objectives of the project. “We are committed to sustainability so first and foremost, we wanted to reduce our overall electric consumption, which also helped us reduce our costs.”

ThinkLite was selected because of its LED retrofit solution for traditional T8 fluorescent fixtures. Instead of requiring replacement of the entire fixture, which can be a far more expensive proposition that comes with the headaches of disposing the old fixtures, ThinkLite’s T8 LED tubes simply swap out, maintaining the existing fixtures.

“The Museum was also interested in improved aesthetics,” said Dinesh Wadhwani, ThinkLite CEO. “Our proprietary driverless LED technology means less heat is produced by the tube and allows us to reach light levels that are 10-15% more to those of brand new fluorescents, while reducing the energy consumption by 50%.”
With a lifespan of 65,000 hours and degradation of only 5% over the lifespan, the Museum of Science is now able to enjoy better light quality for the next 10 years, with a dramatic reduction in maintenance and labor costs.

The Museum also qualified for a significant cash incentive rebate from Eversource. “With the energy savings and the cash incentive, we were able to project a quick ROI.” said Ippolito. “With that kind of payback and significant energy reduction, we are very pleased with ThinkLite and would recommend them based on their product, service and the projected long-term savings.”
