Camden Hills Regional High School in Maine recently completed an energy efficient lighting upgrade across the entire school using ThinkLite’s breakthrough LED lighting retrofit solutions.
The school, which serves a five town regional district, was contemplating energy efficient lighting as a means to control rising overhead costs for the school. However, most options required the school to replace approximately 3400 fluorescent lighting fixtures.
“ThinkLite was the only source that could uniformly retrofit both T8 and T5 fixtures with their LED tubes Since they were able to retrofit the existing fixtures, it allowed us to complete the project during school hours.” – Keith Rose, facilities Manager
There were also some other options being offered to keep the existing fixtures and simply replace the lamps only; however, the replacement LED Tubes from several manufacturers were not bright enough to adequately provide equivalent light levels of the schools existing fluorescent tubes.
ThinkLite proposed a complete retrofit, keeping the existing fixtures and replacing the fluorescent lamps with ThinkLite LED tubes. Dinesh Wadhwani, CEO of ThinkLite commented, “Aside from being less wasteful and capturing significant energy savings for the school, our LED tubes generate the highest lumens per watt in the industry as a result of our driverless LED design, so the overall light quality of the facility was vastly improved.”
Dale Temple of ThinkLite, who oversaw the project commented, “School officials understood how much more energy efficient a lighting retrofit would be over replacing their existing fixtures. With the ThinkLite retrofit, the total project cost was significantly lower, and the school did not have to retire all those fixtures to a landfill.”
Camden Hills Regional High School faces the same challenges that all school districts encounter. As budgets are squeezed year after year, administrators must control costs while maintaining the quality of education and their facilities.
Keith Rose, Facilities Manager for the Camden Region remarked, “ThinkLite brought several advantages to this project. Firstly, they were able to replace all the existing fluorescent lamps with LED Tubes, both T8 and T5 LED lamps. ThinkLite was the only source that could uniformly retrofit both T8 and T5 fixtures with their LED tubes, while improving light quality across campus. Since they were able to retrofit the existing fixtures, it allowed us to complete the project during school hours. In addition, the lighting quality is much better while the energy consumption has been reduced by nearly 60%. Coupled with the projected 65,000-hour lifespan of the ThinkLite tubes, we have essentially eliminated all lamp and ballast maintenance for 15 years. I’d say that is a very successful outcome!”
ThinkLite is pleased to partner with schools and school districts to help them realize long-term energy savings while improving lighting to deliver a better educational experience.
