Nominated 2015 Immigrant Entrepreneur of the Year
Dinesh Wadhwani, Founder and CEO of ThinkLite had a very ‘awarding’ month of May. Fresh off a big win, along with his brother and partner Danny as Inc. Magazine’s top under 30 Entrepreneur of the Year, Dinesh was honored by Massachusetts’ Immigrant Learning Center as a nominee for the Immigrant Entrepreneur of the Year.
Hailing from Ghana in West Africa, Dinesh, a serial entrepreneur since the age of 13, attended Babson College where, during his years there, he founded ThinkLite.
“We challenge the wasteful practices of today”, said Dinesh, “by developing and manufacturing breakthrough LED lighting products that retrofit into existing fluorescent fixtures. Traditionally, companies would have to replace the entire fixture in order to take advantage of the energy saving benefits of LED. Existing retrofits are not to be unreliable and incapable of producing enough light to match the existing fluorescent lamps. With ThinkLite proprietary T8 and T5 LED tubes producing amongst the industry’s top efficacy of 131 lumens per watt, we are able to successfully retain the existing fixture, keeping lighting retrofit costs low and eliminating the need to discard perfectly good lighting fixtures.”
These unique attributes caught the attention of Diane Portnoy, Founder and CEO of the Immigrant Learning Center (ILC) and led to Dinesh’s nomination. Since 1992, the ILC has been a leading resource for education and opportunity in Massachusetts’ immigrant community.
Dinesh was honored to be among so many successful entrepreneurs. “We each have similar motivations. First we are motivated to make our respective companies as successful as possible. And second we want to honor and respect this country, and Massachusetts in particular for opening doors for immigrant entrepreneurs in a big way.”
In addition to his nomination, Dinesh received US Congressional recognition, as well as citations from both the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Massachusetts State Senate. Posing with Massachusetts Governor Charles D. Baker and ILC CEO Diane Portnoy, Dinesh was grateful for the recognition but also looked forward to the next day when he would be back at his office in Natick, where he spends the bulk of his time providing growing companies worldwide a remarkable solution when it comes to energy efficient lighting.
