Continuing their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint, Westboro Tennis Club has recently completed an efficient lighting upgrade on all ten of their indoor tennis courts. They chose to go with ThinkLite’s HammeLite Induction solution to improve the lighting quality and virtually eliminate maintenance for 10+ years.
Induction lamps are essentially a fluorescent technology, first developed in 1890 by Nikola Tesla, that do not use a filament or electrode and thus last for 100,000 hours; 10x longer than metal halide and 3-5x longer than typical fluorescent tubes. They also emit a glare free white light and have instant on/off ability which further contributes to the overall savings.
ThinkLite replaced a total of 78 1000W metal halide lamps with their 500W-700W HammeLite induction fixtures, thus reducing energy use by an average of 40% or 170,000 kWh per year.
President and GM, Justin Lundbergh, claims that he is “thrilled with the light quality and looking forward to eliminating the annual maintenance issues associated with metal halide lamps which depreciate and change color so quickly”.
Fostered by utility company incentives and annual savings of $25,000, the upgrade will pay for itself in less than two years and is expected to yield a gross savings of over $500,000!
